Apple is developing a 20-inch MacBook with a screen that folds and plans to begin large-scale production in 2027

Instead of targeting an iPhone or iPad for their first foldable device as previously speculated, Apple seems to be concentrating on a 20-inch MacBook. They might introduce their initial foldable screen gadget in 2027.

Famous Apple expert, Ming-Chi Kuo, has provided insights into Apple's possible intentions of unveiling an innovative 20-inch MacBook with a foldable display in the coming three years.

Kuo, famous for his precise forecasts, disclosed in a recent X post that Apple's development plans feature a 20.3-inch MacBook, expected to start bulk manufacturing in 2027. However, particular details about the gadget are still confidential.

Kuo's revelation coincides with whispers from other market insiders, such as display industry analyst Ross Young and Korean site The Elec, who have also suggested the potential existence of a 20-inch MacBook.

Just to give some background, the biggest laptop model that Apple currently sells is the 16-inch MacBook Pro. They stopped producing the 17-inch MacBook Pro back in 2012.

Kuo refrained from revealing more specific details about the design of the rumored foldable MacBook, even though he provided an estimate of the screen size.

Kuo pointed out the distinctiveness of the 20-inch MacBook in Apple's range of foldable products, suggesting a separate development path. He implied that foldable versions of the iPhone or iPad are not expected to be released in the near future.

Rumors regarding a foldable MacBook have been circulating for a while. In 2022, analyst Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested that Apple was investigating the possibility of foldable laptops, particularly a model with a 20-inch screen.

Earlier this year, The Information unveiled that Apple has been testing prototypes of foldable iPhones since 2018, adding a layer of mystery. The prototypes come in two unique designs; one that looks like a conventional smartphone and another that is similar to an iPad, but with the ability to fold.

Kuo's latest remarks imply that Apple's attention on foldable technology is currently centered on the large MacBook, possibly hinting that foldable iPhones or iPads may not be in the near future plans.

Apple continues to stay silent about its plans for foldable products, however, its main rivals, Samsung and Google, have already made considerable progress in this field.

Samsung has released several versions of its flip and book-like folding phones. Meanwhile, Google unveiled the Pixel Fold last year, with speculation about the development of a second-generation device.
